The direct advancement of knowledge is at the core of JAIR activities. We endeavour to bring together the whole gamut of social scientists from all fields of inquiry, regions, and occupational endeavors within and outside academe, and to expand awareness and understanding of International developments. A fundamental mission of JAIR is to support the professional workplace and career opportunities of young scholars working in the field of International Relations and Contemporary history.

The Vision Statement:

The Jadavpur Association of International Relations (JAIR) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established under Societies Registration Act, 1961 of the Government of West Bengal   on 28th February, 2008. The primary objective of the Association was to emerge as an academic platform for serious international studies with membership across the disciplines and professions, offering special access to the young scholars. This is the first organization of its kind with All India character. More than a professional association, JAIR is foremost a learned society. The direct advancement of knowledge is at the core of JAIR activities. We endeavour to bring together the whole gamut of social scientists from all fields of inquiry, regions, and occupational endeavors within and outside academia, and to expand awareness and understanding of International Relations as a subject. A fundamental mission of JAIR is to support the professional workplace and career opportunities of young scholars working in the field of International Relations.

One of the fundamental missions of JAIR was to analyse India’s Foreign Policy in the contemporary years and to develop goodwill amongst the nations of the region of South and Southeast Asia by securing India’s position in the region.  Since 2008 JAIR has emerged as an important organization in the region which has analysed and propagated India’s Foreign Policy both at the International and National Level. JAIR has dealt closely with the important features of India’s Foreign Policy like Look East Policy, BIMSTEC etc.  With the gamut of experts of International Relations within its Executive Body JAIR has closely worked with the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) since its inception. With the patronage of the Public Diplomacy Division, MEA, GOI, MAKAIAS, ICSSR, ICCR, Ministry of Culture, JAIR has successfully organised International level, national level as well as inter-university level seminars and has brought out a couple of major publications apart from occasional papers.  Today, we have local chapters in a number of Indian States. JAIR had also organized the First ever Convention on International Relations in the year 2011 on India’s Constructive Engagement in Asia and Africa. Moreover, JAIR have organized a series of programmes with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi and Eastern and North-eastern Regional Council, Ministry of Culture, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and many others.

During the last few years, with its limited resources JAIR had established its close link with the Foreign Missions in India. This includes the American Center, Embassy of Myanmar, Bangladesh, Thailand, Consulates of Myanmar, and Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Japan and others. Representatives from most of these foreign missions have participated in many of the JAIR programmes and activities. A delegation of the Members of the Parliament of South Africa has also attended JAIR program in recent years. Details of important visitors are attached with this letter.

JAIR is playing a very important role to promote India’s Foreign Policy both at the Regional level and at the International level. JAIR’s strong team of International Relations scholars and practitioners are constantly working to popularise International Relations as a subject. We have specially targeted India’s Foreign Policy and involved the practitioners to give shape to the understanding of it. The association has created more understanding of Indian Foreign Policy and Culture within our own country and beyond.
